his EDS has two sterilization tanks and no holding tank. While one tank is sterilizing effluent, the other acts as a holding tank. These roles then reverse after the active sterilization tank empties. Because of this method of processing, this type of EDS is sometimes known as a Run / Standby effluent decontamination system.

This setup requires minimal space, as it does not require a holding tank. It also maximizes processing speed by removing the need to pump effluent from the holding tank into the sterilization tank.
